Y'know, one thing I could never bring myself to do was beg during my shelter-less period.

I never had a problem going up to random houses and asking if they had any lawn work that needed doing for a meal or a few bucks, offering to trade bits of prose or doodles for a donut, that kind of thing... but outright begging?

Always struck me as a crutch for the stupid and lazy.

Aw this makes me feel bad, because the "street performers" down in Lil 5, Atlanta, barely make change from anyone, especially me. I just can't give some money, because I know a good bit of them. They've gone out of their way to avoid trying to get a job.
I know that not all street performers do that, but y'know.

Well, take into consideration people live often enough on the generosity of others, and donations to things like kids in Africa doesn't do shit, your feeding useless people, or funding corrupt politicians. I gave my money once to a homeless guy, he went straight to the liqiour store.

I don't tend to tolerate buskers either...
... which is ironic-hilarious because my mother used to do that for a living.

But thas it. I don't tend to like buskers, street musicians, that sort of lot.

Very simple reason: They always play really shitty music.
The kind of shitty music whereby my life would be better if they were NOT there...

I don't tend to antagonise them unless I'm wearing my chainmail though.
I discovered by accident one time when going to the Natural History Museum in full chainmail (yeah, that is a thing I do cos I'm just like that) that the jangling of chainmail sounds sorta like coins dropping. SO I jangled my sleeve every time I went past a busker... It was like the funniest thing. Sometimes I even stopped and jangled it in front of them again so they'd know for certain that I had actually NOT given them money.

It was very important that they knew that.

If they wanted actual money from me, they'd play something decent for a change .

O'course on the flipside, there is that little woman with the buggy full of stuff who wanders around Camden, trying to sell stuff she found or got from charity shops...
.... So I gave her 20 quid one time because she'd found a load of National Geographics. I didn't buy them from her. I just gave her 20 quid so she could get someone's help selling them on eBay or something, because collectors would probably pay more for them. Mostly I just paid her 20 quid because her treasures were interesting.
